DENVER – A Denver bar and grill earned an F in this week’s Restaurant Report Card for where they kept their full fly strip and a coffee and tea show in Lakewood get’s the A.

Roadhouse Bar & Grill

The Roadhouse Bar & Grill at 2035 S. Sheridan Boulevard got an F for 12 critical violations in its last two regular inspections.

Health inspectors found a “fly strip full of dead flies hanging from ceiling” and “small flying insects” in a bottle of vodka during its August inspection.

Other issues included beef, cheese, deli meat, chicken wings and eggs being held at too warm of temperature, which can make you sick.

Health experts said “several containers of food (were) disposed of.”

The report also said an employee was handling food without a proper hair restraint and a bartender was handling money then picking up ice for drinks.

The owner of the grill did not return our calls and when we stopped by the restaurant, she refused to show us the kitchen.

Instead, she sent a message that said, “Everything listed on the original inspection has been corrected…the employee that was on shift…was terminated that day.”

Blake Street Tavern

Our next failing grade goes to Blake Street Tavern at 2301 Blake Street in Denver. The LoDo restaurant scored 12 critical mistakes including “winged insects in the liquor.”

Also, “20 pans of house-made dressing” were being held at too warm of temperature and were discarded.

Inspectors also ordered the staff to clean the kitchen for food debris and clean the floor drains because of large amounts of sludge.

The owner of the restaurant, Chris Fuselier, said his staff is committed to food safety.

“We’ve been in business 10 years. We pride ourselves on our food. We are owner-operated. When something is broken… we fix it immediately,” Fuselier said.

The Village Roaster

Our grade A goes to The Village Roaster coffee and tea shop at 9255 West Alameda in Lakewood for zero violations during its last two inspections.

The Village Roaster is known for its fresh-roasted coffee.

“We are not just striving to get perfect inspections. We have a standard here that we want everything clean and neat,” owner Kathleen Curtis said

Curtis said it feels good to be the cream of the crop.
